TNA Newsletter 4_TNA Phase II- Countries moving forward with CTCN technical assistance

We look back at TNA II and the steps taken to implement project ideas identified through the TNA process.
By September 2018, at the closure of TNA Phase II, 22 countries had successfully completed their TNA process. Many of these countries are now taking steps towards the actual implementation of some of the project ideas presented in their Technology Action Plan (TAP) reports.

Some of the countries have developed comprehensive project proposal for GCF funding, while others have submitted requests for technical assistance to the CTCN for further development of project proposals or for conducting feasibility studies.
Although not all the requests for technical assistance coming from TNA countries are emanating from their TAPs, a significant number of them are.

Two examples of countries requesting technical assistance to further develop TAPs are:

- Panama requested CTCN assistance to accelerate the transition to sustainable mobility and low carbon emissions transport in Panama City.
Specifically, the objective of the assistance is to facilitate the strategic decision making for the transportation sector in Panama City regarding the introduction of low or zero emission buses, and the organization of a training workshop for transport operators and stakeholders.

The initiative addresses several of the SDGs, namely, SDG 3, good health and well-being, SDG 11,sustainable cities and communities and SDG 13, climate action, and is under implementation with CTCN funding.

- Another example is Tanzania, that approached CTCN to get technical assistance in developing an energy efficient appliance and equipment strategy. The assistance is aimed at developing a technology roadmap and action plan for promotion and adoption of efficient energy appliances in the country. The initiative, which is now concluded, addressed SDG 7, affordable and clean energy, and SDG 13,climate action.
